About

Kinanthropometry Laboratory

The Kinanthropometry Laboratory has a wide variety of instruments for measuring anthropometric characteristics (scales, measuring tape, skinfold calipers, digital goniometers, and anthropometers). The laboratory also possesses equipment used in various research projects related to muscle strength performance, including load cells, electromyographs, linear position transducers, transcranial direct current stimulators, and vascular occlusion devices. It also has equipment, such as squat and bench press supports, leg presses, bars, and weight plates. In addition, the institution has a room with specific equipment for strength training work in the adjacent building, which serves the master's program.

LESCAF (Laboratory for Sociocultural Studies of Physical Activity)

LESCAF is dedicated to studies developed in the Research Line: Physical Education, Physical Activity, Sport, and Cultural Manifestations. The laboratory has 6 computers with internet access and databases. Large-format printer; tables, sofas, chairs, and a mini-library.

Exercise Physiology Laboratories I and II

Exercise Physiology Laboratories I and II house equipment for various research projects, especially when combined with the equipment in the Kinanthropometry Laboratory. Currently, the laboratory has an ergometer bicycle (CatEye®, Japan) and a treadmill (INBRAMED®, Brazil), as well as Polar® heart rate monitors (Accurex Plus and Advantage, Finland), a VO2000 metabolic analyzer (Medgraph®, USA), sphygmomanometers and stethoscopes (Welch®, USA). Goniometers for assessing joint mobility and an ultrasound device (Aloka®, Japan) for assessing muscle thickness and pennation angle are also available. - 1 Spirobank II Smart portable spirometer (MIR brand) = provides all results of the pulmonary function test (spirometry) (FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, PEF, FEF 25, FEF 50, FEF 25-75, lung age, time to PEF, among other variables). Data can be transferred to a computer where the installed software will generate all the graphs related to the test.

- 5 sphygmomanometers (Cardiomed) = equipment for measuring blood pressure

- 6 stethoscopes (Premium) = for cardiac and pulmonary auscultation

- 1 digital scale (VELVET) = for obtaining the weight of individuals

- 1 bioimpedance body fat monitor (AVAnutri) = measures % fat, % fluid, % muscle mass and metabolic age.

- 1 Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer (SAEHAN) = shows grip strength in kg and pounds. Features a needle indicating maximum value and an adjustable handle that allows 5 positions to accommodate any hand size during evaluation.

- 1 LG computer

- 1 HP printer

Computer Resources

The Postgraduate Program in Physical Activity Sciences provides computers for faculty and students. The secretariat and course coordination have computers, as do the laboratories used for the Research Lines. Students have access to five laboratories with approximately one hundred computers for academic work. The course provides independent internet access for its faculty and students, with the possibility of consulting the CAPES Periodicals database, due to the classification assigned to the Postgraduate Program in Psychology (grade 5).
